At our Atlanta, GA, medical spa, patients from Buckhead, Vinings, Smyrna, and Brookhaven who want to minimize acne scars or other skin damage can improve skin tone and texture with microneedling. At Buckhead Facial Plastic Surgery, we offer both the Sylfirm X dual-wave radiofrequency microneedling device and Rejuvapen®, a handheld device that uses tiny microneedles to create carefully controlled injuries to the skin. The body’s natural healing process responds to microneedling by producing collagen, an essential element of smooth skin.

Since microneedling builds collagen and tightens mildly sagging skin, it is effective for a variety of skin concerns. It’s suitable for all skin types and can be used on most areas of the face and body to address issues such as:
Microneedling should not be used on active acne or active acne rosacea.
Sometimes called collagen induction, microneedling creates tiny injuries in the skin. These micro-injuries spur the skin’s natural healing process, generating collagen and elastin production. Collagen and elastin fibers strengthen and revitalize the skin to create a smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking complexion.
Before your procedure begins, a topical anesthetic is applied to the treatment area to minimize discomfort. Once it’s safe to proceed, the Rejuvapen is applied. Because the Rejuvapen microneedling system is adjustable, Dr. Jarmuz can easily customize your treatment based on the condition of your skin.
The nine needles in the Rejuvapen penetrate at different depths as it moves across the treatment area, stimulating the skin’s natural healing response. Multiple treatments are needed to produce the desired results.
Most people can benefit from a series of 3 to 6 treatments, each spaced about a month apart. The number of sessions you’ll need depends on a number of variables, including your cosmetic goals, the treatment area, and how well your skin responds to the treatment. It may take several weeks for collagen to reach its full potential and create peak results, so we recommend starting with 3 treatments and scheduling additional treatments as needed. Once you’ve achieved your desired results, scheduling routine maintenance treatments gives you the best long-term benefits.
Immediately after microneedling, you can expect some tenderness and redness in the treatment area. It usually resolves on its own within a day or two of the treatment.
The results emerge gradually as the new collagen develops.
Sylfirm is an advanced microneedling treatment that releases dual-wave radiofrequency (RF) energy into the skin through fine needles to accelerate collagen and elastin production and the skin’s repair response.
Sylfirm has two modes that can provide a variety of benefits:
What sets Sylfirm apart is its pulsed wave setting; other RF microneedling devices like Morpheus8 have a single continuous wave mode. Sylfirm’s ultra-short, repeated pulses make treatments more precise and less painful with less downtime than Morpheus8.
First, your provider will prepare the skin with topical numbing cream. Once the skin is numb, your provider will wash away the numbing cream and begin the treatment. As the handheld Sylfirm device passes over the skin, its tiny needles simultaneously puncture the skin and deliver RF energy to the dermal layers beneath. Your provider can customize your treatment to address your skin’s unique needs.
Many people enjoy a noticeable improvement in their skin after their first Sylfirm RF microneedling treatment. However, depending on their desired results, some people may need 3 to 5 treatments. Those with mild concerns may be satisfied with 3 treatments, for example, while those with scarring may need 5 or 6 treatments. After the initial series of treatments, annual touch-up sessions help maintain a smooth, supple, and evenly toned complexion.
As with Rejuvapen, you can expect a couple of days of mild redness and swelling after a Sylfirm RF microneedling treatment.
Your skin may begin to feel tighter within just a few days, but most results gradually appear as dermal remodeling progresses. It may take 2 or 3 months to see your full results.
Microneedling increases elastin fiber in the skin, helping to tighten mild sagging. For more pronounced skin laxity, nonsurgical Ultherapy® or a surgical procedure such as a facelift will be more effective.
A variety of complementary procedures, including chemical peels, laser skin rejuvenation, HydraFacial®, and injectable services, can enhance your microneedling results. Microneedling is also an effective part of a long-term treatment plan customized for you by Dr. Jarmuz.
If microneedling isn’t the right treatment for you, Dr. Jarmuz offers a range of other skin rejuvenation therapies to improve the appearance of wrinkles, acne scars, and other skin damage. Ultherapy and laser skin rejuvenation are our most popular alternatives.
In most cases, microneedling results last about 3 to 5 months, depending on your skin’s natural collagen production, how well you protect your skin from sun damage and other factors. Most people find that semi-annual touch-up treatments effectively maintain their results.
Neither is better; BOTOX and microneedling address wrinkles differently. BOTOX smooths expression lines like crow’s feet by preventing specific muscles from moving. Microneedling improves the condition of the skin by boosting collagen production. BOTOX and microneedling complement one another and can be combined for a comprehensive anti-aging treatment.
Your skin may flake and peel for a few days after microneedling, ultimately revealing fresh new skin. Use a gentle moisturizer to soothe and hydrate the skin while it is peeling.
Those with active acne, active acne rosacea, bleeding or clotting disorders, or eczema should not have microneedling treatments. It’s also not recommended for people with weakened immune systems or conditions such as diabetes that affect the skin.
You’ll likely see improvements to your skin in as little as a week, but it takes about a month to 6 weeks for your skin’s collagen to produce peak results.
