When something earns a cool nickname like “Brotox,” you know it’s a trend. The number of men getting BOTOX® Cosmetic injections at our Atlanta practice and throughout the U.S. continues to climb as guys pay more attention to their appearances largely because of social media. But BOTOX is also a great pre-wedding treatment for men of all ages who want to look their best on the big day.
Men make up about 10% of the patients who get BOTOX cosmetic injections, and there’s been a fairly steady increase from year to year, including men in their 20s. Myths about BOTOX injections—such as patients look like they’ve had “work” done or that it requires taking time off from work—tend to keep more men from getting treatments.
In fact, the primary myth surrounding BOTOX is that the treatment is only for women. But 2 of the concerns targeted by BOTOX injections—vertical worry lines between the eyes and crow’s feet at the corner of the eyes—are common cosmetic concerns of men, too.
For men about to get married, strategic use of BOTOX can help them be confident in their appearance on their wedding day. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind before saying “I do” want BOTOX:
- Timing is everything. Plan on scheduling your injections at least 2 months before the wedding date. It’s not that it takes that long to work; most patients see results within 4 or 5 days after the treatment. But after 2 months the full effects will be visible, and BOTOX results usually last for about 4 months.
- Check out the qualifications of your injector. At Buckhead Facial Plastic Surgery, Dr. Theresa Jarmuz is a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon with a certified esthetician on staff who together have years of experience performing cosmetic injections. They create results that look natural, so you won’t appear “frozen.”
BOTOX was first approved by the FDA in 1989 and has been used to address cosmetic concerns for more than 20 years. It has a proven track record of safety and has shown in numerous clinical studies to be one of the most effective and efficient ways to minimize wrinkles. In recent years, the versatility of BOTOX has continued to grow, with the FDA approving the drug as a treatment for chronic migraine headaches and for excessive underarm sweating, among other cosmetic and medical concerns.
The treatment itself can be scheduled during a patient’s lunch hour. The injection procedure takes only about 15 minutes, and you can return to work immediately after the procedure.
